The Mad Scientist Section (The Knobs!)

Want to sound less like a doorbell and more like the Blade Runner soundtrack? Fiddle with these controls.

• OSCILLATOR: This is the synth's voice.

  • Square: The sound of every 80s video game ever. Bleep-bloop!

  • Sawtooth: The classic, aggressive, "I mean business" synth sound.

  • Sine: Smooth and gentle. Good for spooky alien communications.
    

• FILTER (LPF): This is the "Wub-Wub" knob.

  • Cutoff: Slide it left to make the sound dark and muffled (like it's underwater). Slide it right to make it bright and buzzy.

  • Resonance: Adds a "zingy" or "whistling" sound. Crank it for futuristic sci-fi noises.
    

    AMP ENVELOPE (ADSR): This shapes how your note behaves. Does it stab or does it swell?

    • A (Attack): How fast the sound fades IN. Fast = Pew!. Slow = Whoooosh.

    • D (Decay): How fast the sound fades OUT after the attack

    • S (Sustain): How loud the note stays while you hold a key. Low for plucky sounds, high for epic pad sounds.

    • R (Release): How long the sound echoes after you let go. Turn this up for maximum spacey drama.

    • The "Stranger Things" Bass: Set Oscillator to Sawtooth. Turn the Filter Cutoff way down low. Give it a short Attack and Release. Now play some spooky notes.

    • The Laser 'Pew-Pew': Use a Square wave. Turn Sustain all the way down. Play with a short Decay and Release. Zap!

    • The Epic Space Pad: Use Sawtooth. Turn the Attack and Release way up high. Hold down a few keys and float away.
